For 38 years, The Holistic Cancer Centre has been a safe place at a difficult time for people across the Wirral. As a nurse‑led service, we have provided compassionate, holistic support to thousands of patients and families, offering psychological, emotional, spiritual and practical care during some of life’s most challenging moments.
Our approach has always been rooted in dignity, kindness and community. From counselling and complementary therapies to wellbeing groups, creative activities and quiet space for reflection, the Centre has been a trusted part of Wirral cancer support for nearly four decades.
With great sadness, we must share that The Holistic Cancer Centre will be closing.
The loss of long‑standing NHS funding, combined with rising operational costs, has made it impossible to sustain our building. Every option has been explored, but continuing in our current premises is no longer viable.
This closure is not a failure. It is a thoughtful and dignified ending to a service that has always prioritised quality, safety and holistic care. Our commitment to supporting people affected by cancer has never wavered, and this decision reflects our responsibility to end well, with integrity and compassion.
We are deeply grateful to the staff, volunteers, patients, families and community members who have shaped the Centre’s extraordinary 38‑year legacy. Your trust, kindness and support have made this work possible.
We want to give heartfelt thanks to our nurses, therapists and centre‑based volunteers, many of whom have dedicated years — and in some cases decades — to supporting people affected by cancer. Their commitment has been the heartbeat of the Centre.
- Our nurses have provided safe, professional, compassionate care, offering guidance, reassurance and clinical expertise through every stage of a person’s cancer journey.
- Our therapists have delivered hands‑on complementary therapies and emotional support with skill, gentleness and humanity, helping patients find comfort, relief and hope.
- Our volunteers have given their time freely, welcoming every person who walked through our doors, creating a warm, calm and supportive environment that made the Centre feel like a sanctuary.
We also want to recognise and thank our administrative staff, whose dedication has quietly underpinned every aspect of the Centre’s work. Over many years, they have ensured the smooth running of our service — managing appointments, supporting patients and families, coordinating therapists, handling complex paperwork, keeping our systems organised and offering a warm welcome at the front desk. Their professionalism, patience and kindness have been essential to the Centre’s stability and success. They have supported people affected by cancer with sensitivity and respect, often being the first reassuring voice or friendly face that patients encountered. Their contribution has been invaluable, and we are deeply grateful for their commitment.
Their dedication has touched thousands of lives. They have listened, comforted, encouraged and cared — often quietly, always wholeheartedly. The impact of their work will continue long after our doors close.
Although our premises will close, our heart and mission will continue. We will be donating our remaining resources to other Wirral charities who share our commitment to supporting local people in need, ensuring that the spirit of the Centre lives on within our community.
We also want to share that our charity shop at 290 Hoylake Road, Moreton will sadly be closing.
This shop has been far more than a retail space — it has been a lively, friendly social hub at the heart of the community. Our two shop managers have created a warm, welcoming environment where people could chat, connect and feel supported. Their dedication has made the shop a cherished part of local life.
We extend our deepest thanks to the many volunteers who have given their time each week, helping with every aspect of retail. Your commitment, kindness and reliability have been invaluable, and the shop could not have thrived without you.
We would like to thank all our customers, supporters and those who have donated goods over the years. Every purchase and every donation has helped sustain our work and support people affected by cancer. Your generosity has made a real difference.
We wish to pay special tribute to Mrs Dorothy Crowther, the founder of The Holistic Cancer Centre. Her pioneering vision, courage and unwavering dedication created a service that transformed cancer support across the Wirral. Dorothy’s compassion and leadership laid the foundations for everything we achieved, and her legacy continues to guide our values, our ethos and our commitment to holistic care. Without her, this remarkable journey would never
have begun.
Although our doors will close, our heart and mission will continue. We will be donating our remaining resources to other Wirral charities who share our commitment to supporting local people in need, ensuring that the spirit of the Centre lives on within our community.
